AdSense is a program from Google which lets you earn money without the need to sell anything to anyone. It is a global program.

You can see it as a triangle, where three different subjects are involved:

Advertisers join Google Adwords in order to promote their products or services.

Google then lets anyone with an Adsense account display these PPC ads which are targeted to the keywords found on your page (automatically).

When a visitor clicks on the AdSense ads, the Adwords advertiser is charged for the click and the visitor is sent to the advertiser's site.

The owner of the website is then paid by Google a percentage of that money.
